National dog and baby safety program now available in the Charlotte and Concord Area !

The perfect program that increases safety and decreases stress and concerns for new parents of babies.
Dogs & Storks™ is the first national pre baby program where dogs are the focus. Answering the call of many new parents, this program sets the groundwork for success, through education, before baby arrives.

Since 2002 hundreds of families in NC have benefited from this much needed program. We are excited and proud to bring Dogs & Storks™ to the Concord/Charlotte Area. Dogs & Storks™ provides expecting families with practical education and support during pregnancy to increase safety and decrease concerns many new parents and families may have about the family dog.

This semi-private 2-hour workshop is bursting with tips and information that gets families started immediately in preparing for life with a dog and baby under one roof. Families will explore the subtle language of dogs, ways to include their dog before and after baby arrives and so much more! Private in home consultations are also available for a much more “hands on” detailed evaluation.

The creator of the program, Jennifer Shryock, a certified dog behavior consultant who has been hands on with dogs since a very young age. She has a Bachelors Degree in Special Education and is the Mother of three children. Along with her private dog behavior consulting business, Family Paws, the Shryock family has fostered over 70 dogs and many cats over the years providing ample hands-on learning opportunities. It was through fostering and becoming active in dog rescue that Jennifer saw the need for education specializing in new and expecting families.

Frequently dogs are abandoned or re-homed due to a lack of knowing what resources and support is available. Preparing ahead makes all the difference in the world and Dogs and Storks™ provides consistent and current information through qualified, licensed presenters. By addressing concerns or behavioral challenges ahead of time, families can set proper expectations and practice new routines well before baby arrives. Providing this resource is what has driven Jennifer Shryock to create Dogs & Storks™. “I want to make education available even before they know they need it!” Jennifer believes by offering Dogs & Storks™ nationally through qualified presenters that this type of education will become as common as childbirth classes. That is tail wagging news for dogs everywhere!

What are some of the most frequent questions asked over the years?
“How should we introduce our baby to the dog?”
“What does it mean when my dog barks at the crib while my baby is crying?”
“Will he be jealous and take it out on the baby?”
“What if he won’t accept the baby?”

Common comments we hear that demonstrate the need for education.
“He just knows the baby is ours and he protects him.”
“He is the first one to run when the baby cries…it is so cute.”
“It is so cute when he licks the baby all over. He just loves the baby.”
“We were told to put the baby on the floor and let the dogs sniff him.”

This last one is the most alarming, and yes, we still hear parents say someone advised them to put the baby on the floor and allow the dog to sniff them when they first arrive home. It is misinformation such as this that prompted Jennifer to create a team of qualified professionals to present this specialized program in communities all over the United States.
Education is the way to be proactive in prevention. Knowledge and awareness is empowering.
