Non-profit Katie's Kidz d/b/a K-9 Capers has now joined the Cabarrus
County 4-H to continue our mission of helping youth to learn how to
solve problems in a positive manner and to instill positive character
development such as empathy, respect and responsibility through
animal- assisted programs. K-9 Capers meets weekly during the school
calendar for dog-training instruction and various field trips to
explore K-9 Sports. We will have on-going summer programs such as a
week long summer Camp, Tail Waggin' Tutors reading program and
community service programs such as Pet Safety and Empathy. Our 4-H
meeting will be once a month at the Saddle Club.

We will have very special guest speaker 


 4-H Junior Handlers Club (4-H JHC) 5-18 only

All 4-H regular monthly meetings are free and open to the members. However,
the 4-H JHC is exclusively for those who wish to pursue dog training and dog sports.
We will have separate workshops, classes and special privileges for using the equipment
which will be included in the Jr. Handlers Club membership. All other regular classes you
will receive a 20% discount if you decide to take additional classes.

You DO NOT need a dog to be a 4-H Jr. handler. We have dogs for you to “borrow”.
We will be opening the puppy yard and equipment throughout the week during the year.
Free Classes and workshops for the 4-H will be noted as (4-H JHC) .

Children 5-8 MUST have a parent or guardian with the child at all times!

Requirements to be in the Jr. Handlers 4-H Club:

1. Member of the 4-H
2. No disciplinary actions on your record
3. Have read and signed the code of conduct by the 4-H
4. Parental permission and a signed waiver on file
5. If you have a dog, must be POOCH-PASS certified.
6. $10 annual fee will cover the following, T-Shirt, clicker, work book, and
4-H training workshops and clinics. (Scholarships available)
7. Annual Project Book

Pooch Pass Certification Process: (see bringing a dog - Pooch Pass)

  • Kids under 8 must have an adult(parent/guardian) present at all times.
  • Dog/puppy must be current on all age appropriate vaccines including the RABIES vaccine. Titers are acceptable on other vaccines.
  • We take dogs/puppies 11weeks up with no age limit if dog is in good health.
  • If you have a dog who is not kid or dog friendly it is best to not bring them until they have been evaluated or retrained in private.
  • You are responsible for any accidents, bites or harm to any person or property.
  • All youth MUST watch the safety video and pass the test.
  • We have the right to reject any dog or child for the safety of others.
  • Must have a parent sign a waiver to keep on file.
  • Animals must be flea and worm free.
  • Not picking up after your dog will be grounds to revoke your Pooch Pass.
  • Passes are good for one year and all youth are required to pass.
  • Where: At 4370 Zion Church Rd at the Cabarrus Saddle Club
  • Who: Kids 5-8 will be in the clover buds & Youth 9-18
  • Note: Parents must stay with kids 5-8 at all times. Parents are always welcome!
